Butte Creek Mill

EAGLE POINT, OREGON, U.S. — Bob Moore, founder of Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods, has donated $100,000 to The Butte Creek Mill Foundation to help fund restoration of Butte Creek Mill.

“I’ve had a mill of my own for 45 years and I’m certainly pleased to help with the restoration of the Butte Creek Mill,” Moore said.

Until Dec. 25, 2015, the Butte Creek Mill was the only water-powered gristmill West of the Mississippi commercially grinding flour. But an electrical malfunction in the milling room that morning destroyed 70% of the mill. Thirty percent of the mill, including the original French grinding stones, remain intact, and a foundation was set up to raise funds to rebuild the mill.

The Butte Creek Mill Foundation has raised more than $400,000 in cash and more than $500,000 in in-kind donations. Additionally, the Timber Framer’s Guild has committed to rebuilding the mill as its 2018 Community Project.
