KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, U.S. — Trading volume at the Kansas City Board of Trade (KCBT) continues to post momentous gains over 2010 trading volume, a year in which new annual volume records were set for the exchange as a whole and the hard red winter wheat futures contract, KCBT said on Aug. 1. Total exchange trading volume is running 48.7% ahead of last year at this time, with HRW wheat futures volume running 45.3% ahead and wheat options volume running 228.1% ahead.

During the month of July, open interest posted healthy gains over last month, with wheat futures open interest of 169,348 contracts gaining 2.7% over the last month and wheat options open interest gaining 22.1% over the last month. Wheat options open interest also posted gains over July 2010 open interest, an increase of 43%.
