ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, U.S. — Bunge Ltd. has opened a new 400-tonne-per-day wheat mill in Del Mayab, which is located about 12 miles from Puerto Progresso in southeast Mexico. According to Bunge, the mill primarily will serve the states of Yucatan, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Chiapas and Tabasco, which together account for about 10% of Mexico’s population.

“This expansion of our footprint ensures that Bunge can continue to meet the needs of our customers with a reliable supply chain and the ability to produce high quality ingredients at a competitive cost,” said Daniel Maldonado, managing director, Mexico. “The location and design of this mill allow us to create a world-class operation with a strong local presence.”
Bunge said the mill was built with a focus on achieving “the best productivity, quality, safety and environmental performance possible.” The mill will sell flour in bulk and in bags to both large food companies and small bakeries.
Bunge will employ around 50 at the mill.

The mill in Del Mayab is Bunge’s eighth wheat mill in Mexico, but is the first one the company has built. The other seven mills were acquired.
