KIEV, UKRAINE — While opening a government meeting on April 20, Nikolay Azarov, Prime Minister of Ukraine, called for speedier sowing rates grain and leguminous crops.

According to Azarov, the rains, which happened almost through the entire territory of Ukraine two weeks ago, had a positive impact on the growth of winter crops, but they kept down rates of the sowing works.

That is why, when the favorable weather conditions resumed, he said it is necessary to speed up sowing of grains and leguminous crops. The Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food should provide the full support to the regions to achieve the goals on early grain, Azarov said.

As of April 19, agrarians had sowed grains and leguminous crops throughout 3 million hectares, or 76% of the forecast.
