ANNABA, ALGERIA —Abdelmalek Sellal, Algeria’s prime minister, on March 9 visited a private 380-hectare farm and inaugurated a grain storage facility.

The grain storage facility has silos with 50,000 tonnes of storage capacity. The facility will create 180 jobs and about 2.5 billion dinars ($22,809,084).

The farm specializes in grain production. It is located 20 kilometers south of Annaba, Algeria. The farms average yield is 20-45 quintals of durum wheat per hectare.

Sellal stressed the need to “master the breeding techniques, to adopt a different vision of the agricultural sector, considering partnerships with foreigners."

"We are now obliged to change mentalities, especially as the government's program is essentially based on the industry but also in agriculture," said Sellal.
"Algeria now has to exploit its entire agricultural area and increase productions."
