WHITE PLAINS, NEW YORK, U.S. — Bunge Limited announced on Oct. 13 that James T. Hackett has been appointed to its board of directors as an independent director, effective Nov.1.

Hackett, 57, is chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Anadarko Petroleum Corp., a leading independent oil and gas exploration and production company. Prior to joining Anadarko in 2003, Hackett was president and chief operating officer of Devon Energy Corp. following Devon's merger with Ocean Energy, Inc. Previously, he was chairman and CEO of Ocean Energy, and served as chairman and CEO of Seagull Energy Corporation prior to its merger with Ocean Energy.

Hackett is a director of Fluor Corp. and the Welch Foundation for Chemistry. He serves on the boards of the Houston Grand Opera and the U.S. Business Roundtable, and is a member of the Trilateral Commission. He is also vice-chairman of the board of the Baylor College of Medicine and an adjunct professor at Rice University, where he is also a board member. He is a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and the American Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA).
