BARCELONA, SPAIN — Elian Barcelona, a subsidiary of the Viserion Group, has begun operations at its renovated soybean processing plant recently acquired from Cargill at the Port of Barcelona, Spain.
The plant has a capacity of 2,500 tonnes per day to produce concentrated and textured protein, a key ingredient for making plant-based alternative foods and high-quality feed. It also produces soybean oil for use in food, cosmetics, adhesives and fuels. The facility, which reopened with a ceremony May 17, serves the Catalan, Spanish and European feed and food ingredient sectors, according to the Catalonia Trade & Investment agency.
“The Barcelona plant is a strategic infrastructure for local protein supply for the production of quality food,” said Andreu Martín, chief executive officer, Elian Barcelona. “The integration of the plant into the Elian/Viserion group will allow us to incorporate an experienced team along with an efficient facility with direct access to raw material imports, ensuring the production chain and making complementary investments that significantly contribute to improving food sustainability."
Elian Barcelona is a subsidiary of Viserion Oilseed Processing, LLC, a newly formed subsidiary of Viserion International. Viserion International is backed by a fund managed by Pinnacle Asset Management, L.P., a New York, New York, US-based alternative asset management firm focused on global commodities markets.
Viserion’s investment through Elian, which announced theplant’s acquisitionon Oct. 11, 2023, received support from the government via Catalonia Trade & Investment, the agency for business competitiveness belonging to the Ministry for Business and Labor.
