MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — Viterra Australia set a new seasonal export record, shipping more than 7 million tonnes of grain from its ports across the country on the heels of a bumper harvest.

The achievement for one of Australia’s largest grain buyers and exporters followed a record-breaking 2022-23 harvest in which growers produced 71 million tonnes of grain and surpasses the old export mark set in 2016-17.

“Congratulations to our employees on this fantastic achievement, and thank you to our grower customers, end use customers and supply chain partners for their support, including our storage and handling team in South Australia, who help us deliver quality grain internationally,” Viterra said on LinkedIn.

In its Oct. 8 receivals report for the 2023-24 harvest, Viterra said South Australian farmers delivered over 7,712 tonnes last week, mostly to western region sites, with total receivals since Sept. 25 sitting at 9,001 tonnes. Lentils were the leading crop followed by wheat and barley.

Viterra has invested more than $60 million on capital expenditures and maintenance across its network, including new driver over hopper stackers, front end loaders and weighbridges and bunker upgrades ready for this year’s harvest.
