WARSAW, POLAND — As tension escalates over Ukraine’s agricultural exports, Poland’s premier said the country has stopped weapons supplies to Ukraine, Bloomberg reported.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said the nation is now focusing on arming itself with modern weapons However, it won’t interfere with arms shipments from other countries through the military hub that’s been established in the eastern Polish city of Rzeszow.

The comments come after the European Commission said it would not extend a ban on Ukrainian imports past its Sept. 15 expiration. In an agreement reached earlier this year, imports of Ukrainian grain were blocked from five EU countries — Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria — to protect farmers in those areas from an influx of cheap grain from Ukraine.

Poland, Hungary and Slovakia responded by imposing their own unilateral bans on Ukrainian grain imports. Poland has since threatened to expand the grain ban to other imports.

Kyiv filed lawsuits against the countries at the World Trade Organization.

In the months following Russia’s February 2022invasion of Ukraine, Poland was one of the biggest donors and the first to deliver high-end Leopard tanks.
