SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — South Korea is expected to produce 9.1% more rice this year due to favorable weather conditions and an increase in the cultivated area, Korea Bizwire reported.

Rice production is expected to reach 3.83 million tonnes this year, compared to a 52-year low of 3.51 million tonnes a year ago.

This would be the first rebound following five years of production declines. But it will still likely stay below 4 million tonnes for the fifth straight year.

Rice paddies are expected to reach 7,324 square kilometers, up 0.8% from a year earlier.
