BEIJING, CHINA — China increased its corn production estimate for 2018-19 to 257.33 million tonnes based on the nation’s most recent agriculture census, Reuters reported on Jan. 11.
Last month China’s agriculture ministry forecast the crop at 215.04 million tonnes.
Corn consumption for the year that started in October was revised upward to 285.28 million tonnes, an increase of 34.48 million tonnes.
Imports were estimated at 1.5 million tonnes, down from the previous forecast of 2.5 million tonnes, Reuters said.
Ending stocks deficit was estimated at 26.5 million tonnes compared to the previous forecast of 33.31 million tonnes.
