YALTA, UKRAINE — The largest Ukrainian agricultural producers and grain trading companies will meet in Yalta, Ukraine on June 23-24, during the International Conference Grain Forum - 2011, organized by APK-Inform Agency. The conference will be held at the start of the new grain season, when the final results of the spring sowing campaign and the final crop forecast in Ukraine and Russia will be announced.

Despite the regime of quotas for grain export operations in the current season, Ukraine still made the list of the top five exporters of maize. Ukraine was in fourth place after the U.S., Argentina and Brazil. In the list of countries-producers of the grain, Ukraine was in ninth place. According to preliminary forecasts given by analysts of APK-Inform Agency, the general maize production in Ukraine is expected to reach 12.7 million tonnes, which will be the record compared to the previous 12 seasons. The export potential of Ukraine for maize in the new season is estimated at 6.3 million tonnes.

In the previous season Egypt, Iran, Spain, Israel and Syria were the main buyers of Ukrainian maize. During the period of October 2010 - March 2011, the major importers purchased over 1.72 million tonnes of Ukrainian maize. According to the market operators, Egypt can maintain a leading position among buyers of maize in the new season. It is worth noting that in the 2009-10 market year, Egypt purchased 1.58 million tonnes of Ukrainian maize, and in the October-March period of 2010-11 MY, 533,270 tonnes.
