WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA — Effective July 1, a grade schedule for the new wheat class, wheat, Canada eastern hard white winter (CEHWW), will come into effect. The Whitebear variety has been assigned to this new class, and will be registered for production in Ontario in 2011, the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) said on May 27.

The Eastern Standards Committee has recommended that the new grade schedule take effect this coming crop year. The full grade schedule is included in the committee's April 5, recommendations, available on the CGC’s web site at
www.grainscanada.gc.ca.

"Canadian Grain Commission inspection experts and research scientists work together to set grain grades and standards," said Elwin Hermanson, chair of the Eastern Standards Committee and chief commissioner of the CGC. "The Eastern Standards Committee is part of the evaluation process that makes sure grades and standards meet the needs of everyone involved in the grain industry, from producers to processors to buyers."
