Here is a listing of the top 10 U.S. flour milling states, based on the number of mills located there. All data is from Sosland Publishing’s 2019 Grain and Milling Annual.

Pennsylvania has the largest number of mills in the United States at 14 with a total capacity of 97,716 cwts. Pictured above is the Ardent Mills facility in Red Mill. Other mills in the state include Ardent locations in Martins Creek, Mount Pocono, and York; ADM Milling in Camp Hill; F.M. Browns’ Sons, Inc. in Fleetwood; Small Valley Milling in Halifax; Snavely’s Mill in Lititz, Mifflinville and Mill Hall; Wilkins-Rogers in Mount Joy and Palmyra; AG Com in New Oxford; and Essential Eating Sprouted Flours in Waverly.

California is home to 12 mills with a total capacity of 123, 820 cwts. Its mills include the Ardent Mills, San Bernardino facility pictured above as well as Ardent Mills in Colton and Stockton; Miller Milling Co. in Commerce, Fresno and Oakland; Lacey Milling Co. in Hanford; ADM Milling in Los Angeles; Grain Craft in Los Angeles; Giusto’s Vita-Grain Flour Mills and Specialty Foods in South San Francisco; General Mills in Vernon; and Bay State Milling in Woodland.

Kansas comes in at No. 3 with 12 mills and a total capacity of 114,626 cwts. Grain Craft has three locations in Kansas, including the McPherson facility pictured above as well as mills in Kansas City and Wichita. Other facilities in the state include ADM Milling in Abilene, Arkansas City (two mills) and Salina; Bartlett Milling in Coffeyville; Stafford County Flour Mills in Hudson; Kansas State University in Manhattan; Heartland Mill in Marienthal; Ardent Mills in Newton and Wichita.
