KIEV, UKRAINE – Ukraine's Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine announced on Dec. 11 that it has revised the country’s grain production forecast for 2017 upward by 300,000 tonnes, to 62.3 million tonnes.

A survey of winter cereal crops for 2018 shows that planted area is 6.8 million hectares of which 5.6 million hectares (83%) are in good and satisfactory condition, according to the ministry.

“The further condition of crops will depend on the favorable weather conditions for wintering,” the ministry said.

The USDA forecasts total 2017 grain production in Ukraine of 61.49 million tonnes, including 26.5 million tonnes of wheat.

In 2016, grain production in Ukraine was nearly 66 million tonnes, according to the State Statistics Service.
