NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, US — Agribusinesses Bay State Milling, Kent Corp. and Scoular  have been designated US 2023 Best Managed Companies, a program that recognizes outstanding private companies and the achievements of their management teams.

They were among 56 US private companies with at least $250 million in revenue that demonstrated excellence in four key categories: strategic planning, operational execution, a commitment to their people and fostering a dynamic culture, as well as strong governance and financials. Seventeen of these honorees also are recognized as Gold Standard winners, a special designation that celebrates companies that have won for four years running.

Kent has been honored for the fourth straight year, while Bay State Milling and Scoular are making their first appearance on the list. Each of the company’s leaders expressed their appreciation for the recognition.

  • “This award is a true testament to our company’s mission of creating a better food system through nutritious and sustainable food ingredients that are grown with purpose,” said Peter Levangie, president and chief executive officer of Bay State Milling Co. “As the largest family-owned flour mill in the country, we feel a responsibility to create ingredients that provide unparalleled value to our growers, customers and consumers.”
  • “Since the very first year of being recognized, we have always appreciated the award’s focus on every member of our company coming together to do great things,” said Gage Kent, chairman and CEO at Kent. “We at Kent thank all our customers, suppliers and employees for their part in this marvelous designation.”
  • “This designation is a credit to the 1,400 Scoular employees across the globe and their commitment to meet or exceed customer expectations,” said Paul Maass, CEO at Scoular. “As the agriculture industry quickly evolves, so have our employees. We’ve built exceptional, forward-looking teams that work fast and smart and innovate new ways to do business.”
Hundreds of private companies around the world have competed for this designation in their respective countries through a rigorous and independent process that evaluates four key criteria in their management skills and practices — strategy, execution, culture, and governance/financials.
