CAIRO, EGYPT — Domestic feed and crusher demand pushes Egypt’s imports for soybean in the 2021-22 marketing year, according to a Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) report from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The USDA’s Egyptian soybean production forecast in the 2021-22 marketing year remains unchanged at 25,000 tonnes.

With increased demand from soy crush facilities, Egypt’s soybean consumption in the 2021-22 marketing year is expected to rise 2.2% to 4.64 million tonnes.

Similar to consumption, the expanded local crush capacity to meet the demand of high protein soybean meal for the feed industry is anticipated to buoy Egypt’s soybean imports. The USDA projects soybean imports for the 2021-22 marketing year to increase 200,000 tonnes to 4.6 million tonnes.
