EDE, NETHERLANDS — De Heus, a supplier of nutritional products for animals, has acquired a grain silo and compound feed facility in Kendice in Slovakia. The transaction paves the way for De Heus to better supply its customers in Central and Eastern Slovakia and northeast Hungary, the company said.

De Heus said it will rebuild the production process in the facility, adding more advanced and modern production equipment. The rebuild is expected to be completed in mid-2019.

During the rebuild, De Heus said it will use the existing grain silos to store grain harvested from July 2018 onward. The grain will be used as an ingredient for the animal feed produced at existing locations in the Czech Republic, the company said.

“We see great potential to help the businesses of many livestock farmers in Central Europe with our animal feed and supplementary services,” said Pavel Musil, general manager of De Heus Czech Republic. “Our approach is valued by more and more livestock farmers. After expanding the capacity of our production location in Bestovice in 2015, we see this acquisition as an important step toward strengthening our position in this important European region. In order to provide optimal support to our customers in Hungary and Slovakia, we are going to further expand our organization with local professionals in the field of animal feed and livestock farming.”
