MOSCOW, RUSSIA — Officials from Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia on March 4 reached an agreement on a trilateral memorandum of understanding that sets the stage for broader wheat trading, according to the Tasnim News Agency.

The agreement was reached during a meeting in Moscow between deputy agriculture ministers from the three countries.

According to the Tasnim News Agency, the secretary general of the Iran Federation of Food Industry Association said Tehran in February was in discussions with Russia on finalizing a wheat import deal that would allow it to increase flour exports to Iraq. That deal was said to include the import of 100,000 tonnes of Russian wheat per month for private millers in Iran. The Iranian private millers would then produce flour for export.

Iranian private millers are not allowed to use domestic wheat for flour exports, the Tasnim News Agency noted.

Negotiations on the trilateral trade agreement were led by the Eurasian Economic Commission.
