PADOVA, ITALY — Bedeschi, based in Padova, Italy, is the turnkey supplier for the bulk material handling section of an intermodal terminal being constructed on the Caspian Sea.

The $1.5 billion Turkmenbashi International Seaport project includes a ferry and passenger terminal, container terminal, general cargo port, bulk cargo port, and a ship building and repair facility. It is one of the biggest seaports on the Caspian Sea and will provide a significant logistic base connecting Europe to Asia. The project is a collaboration between Turkey and Turkmenistan and is being constructed by GAP ?n?aat.

A major objective of the project is to develop a modern marine fleet equipped with modern facilities and capable of transporting import and export cargo, as well as handling coastal and transit traffic.

For Lot 5, Bedeschi will supply the complete bulk material handling system, with two parallel lines for grain and bulk materials.

The lorry and wagon unloading stations are in common and include two underground pits (one for grain and one for other materials), divided into two hoppers that can be loaded by wagons (discharging from the bottom) or by lorries.

The material will be discharged onto a concrete hopper loading an underground conveyor. For unloading from the concrete hoppers, feeders will be installed.

Along with the two lines, Bedeschi is installing the belt conveyor systems. One will convey grain to a set of 14 silos installed for grain and feeding stuff, supplied by Italy-based Mulmix.

The other line conveys to a flat multi-material storage to store fertilizer, cement, coke and salt.

In addition, Bedeschi also supplied two shiploaders and two hoppers to be installed on the quay.

The shiploader is of the long travel type, with a towed tripper to divert the product from a wharf conveyor onto a transfer belt, then to a loading boom belt, telescopic loading chute for minerals.

One bag filter will be installed on the shiploader’s upper unit to reduce the dust pollution caused by material flow between subsequent points.

All parts that require supervision and/or maintenance will be accessible by ladders and gangways.

Particular care will be taken to correctly convey material flow and avoid spillages. Adjustable deflector plates will be installed inside the chutes to adjust the flow.

The diverter position will be driven by a suitable thrustor.
