The truckers have agreed to meet with transportation authorities later this month to attempt to resolve their differences, the report said.

According to Reuters, nearly 100 cargo ships were waiting on Feb. 9 to load soy and corn from the Port of Rosario. It noted that the truck owners, who are not unionized, went on strike to attempt to force the adoption of minimum grain hauling rates.

The strike also affected the operation of grain mills in the Santa Fe province, where 80% of the country’s agricultural exports are processed, transported and loaded onto ships, the report said.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service, Argentina is forecast to be the world’s largest soybean meal and oil exporter in 2017-18 at 31.2 million and 5.5 million tonnes, respectively. It is forecast to rank third in soybean exports at 8.5 million tonnes.
