Sergio Diaz, a representative of the SOEAR oilseed crushers union, told Reuters the strike has affected Cargill’s two facilities in the grains export hub of Rosario and one in Bahia Blanca.
“We will continue to assemble outside of the plants,” Diaz told Reuters. “No one is working.”
Cargill noted in a statement that it is in the process of restructuring its Rosario and Bahia Blanca operations, with layoffs a part of the restructuring.
“The aim of this measure is not to eliminate or sub-contract jobs, but rather to ensure the continuity of operations in an effective and efficient matter compatible with the business’s new challenges,” Cargill said.
