UZWIL, SWITZERLAND — Bühler recently completed a 600 tpd flour mill for the Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO) in the port of Jazan in southwestern Saudi Arabia on the Red Sea.

The mill features modern cleaning machines, 42 Antares roller mills for grinding, bins for 2,000 tonnes of flour and 450 tonnes of bran as well as packing stations for flour and bran.

At the time of the contract in January 2015, SAGO asked for the mill to be completed in the first part of 2018. Bühler said it was able to complete the facility early and it went into commercial operation in August 2017 — six months early.

“Such an accomplishment is only possible if every single detail has been meticulously planned and executed,” said Stefan Bürgi, project manager for Jazan at Bühler in Uzwil. “All parties involved worked perfectly together, the project team, the local construction company and the Bühler installation crew.”

The seven-floor mill had to be built on 170 piles because of the loose soil and high groundwater level, Bühler said. Despite this, construction of the plant made rapid progress and the mill design was accomplished in record time, the company said.
