MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, U.S. – The Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGEX) on Jan. 2 announced it recorded the highest calendar year volume in its history in 2017 at 2,803,549 contracts, which was 28% higher than the total volume in 2016 and 21% above the previous record of 2,315,186 contracts in 2015.

MGEX options volume in 2017 nearly doubled the previous record of 61,226 contracts, which was set in 2002.  The exchange additionally set a new annual electronic volume record in 2017 with 2,464,319 contracts traded, which surpassed the previous record by 22%.

December 2017 total volume was 115,104 contracts while the month-end open interest was 13% higher than a year ago at 76,176 contracts.

MGEX is the principal market for U.S. Hard Red Spring Wheat.
