KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, U.S. -- During the Grain Elevator and Processing Society’s (GEAPS) Exchange 2017, the organization recognized facilities that finished the previous year with no lost-time or work-related injury or illness.

The top five companies with the most cumulative hours without a lost-time injury or illness and the top five companies in terms of consecutive years they have received a GEAPS Safety Award were also honored during GEAPS Exchange 2017. The event was Feb. 25-28 in Kansas City, Missouri, U.S.

A total of 436 facilities at 32 companies were honored as part of the 2016 Safety Awards Program. These companies and facilities completed 2016 without any lost-time work-related injury or illness.

"As industry leaders, we have a responsibility to ensure we are providing the right training programs and leadership towards creating a safety culture that fosters doing the right thing when no one is looking," said Robert Taylor, Cargill, GEAPS second vice-president, who presided over the awards. "We have a lot of positive examples within our industry where companies, facilities and employees are going some great things to build their safety culture. By honoring and recognizing their great achievements, it’s a great way to show and demonstrate how proud we are for their accomplishments."

First Place: Bunge Canada Harrow, Russell, Manitoba (1,640,833 hours)

Second Place: Cargill AgHorizons, Tuscola, Illinois, U.S. (1,413,128 hours)

Third Place: Bunge North America facility, Delphos, Ohio, U.S. (1,373,112 hours)

Fourth Place: Bunge Canada, Altona, Manitoba (1,144,471 hours)

Fifth Place: Bunge Canada, Hamilton, Ontario (1,046,291 hours)

The top five facilities in terms of consecutive years they have received a GEAPS Safety Award were:

First Place: Bunge North America, DeSoto Landing, Arkansas City, Arkansas, U.S., (38 years)

Second Place: Bunge North America-Fountain Bluff, Grand Tower, Illinois, U.S. (34 years)

Third Place: Cargill, Tipton, Indiana, U.S. (31 years)

Fourth Place: Bunge North America, Blytheville, Arkansas, U.S.; Hickman, Kentucky, U.S.; LaGrange, Missouri, U.S.; Yazoo City, Mississippi, U.S. (30 years)
