Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman

LAGOS, NIGERIA — Flour Mills of Nigeria board of directors has appointed Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman as an independent non-executive director of the company, effective March 8.

“Suleiman, our pioneer female director, is a sound professional with high personal integrity, and brings with her many years of managerial experience from both the corporate and governmental perspectives,” said Paul Gbededo, group managing director of Flour Mills of Nigeria. “The board is optimistic that Suleiman’s wealth of experience would be of great benefit to the company.”

Suleiman is currently an independent non-executive director of Stanbic IBTC holdings Plc. She has professional corporate business development experience as well as experience in advocating for women’s education in Nigeria. 

Suleiman has a LLB honors degree from Ahmadu Bello University located in the Zaria, Kaduna state of Nigeria and a LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She has worked as a state counsel with the Ministry of Justice Sokoto, worked closely with the MAL Merchant Bank and served as a secretary and legal adviser for with the Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria. She later became the secretary and director of Legal Services at the Nigerian Securities & Exchange Commission between 2011-08.

She has worked in many different sectors of the Nigerian government during the past 10 years.

In December of 2008, she was appointed as the honorable minister of Women Affairs and Social Development of Nigeria and in 2010 went on to become the honorable minister of State, Foreign Affairs Ministry of Nigeria. Suleiman was appointed commissioner of Political Affairs Ministry of Nigeria in February 2012.
