HORSHAM, PENNSYLVANIA, U.S. — Bimbo Bakeries USA (BBU) said it will cease production at its baking plant located at 317 S. Elm St. in Hastings, Nebraska, U.S., in early September. The company will shift production to its Bellevue, Nebraska; South Sioux City, Nebraska; Sioux Falls, Nebraska; and Topeka, Kansas bakeries.

BBU makes bread and buns at the plant under the Old Home brand and employs 117 associates there. The facility has been open since the mid-1950s, and BBU acquired the plant as part of its acquisition of Sara Lee’s North American Fresh Bakery business in 2011.

“Making the decision to close a facility is never an easy one,” said Edgar Jaramillo, vice-president of operations for BBU. “After careful analysis and consideration, we determined it is most efficient to redistribute production to the nearby locations to better meet market demand.”
