CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, U.S. — Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) announced on July 13 that the company’s lead director, Donald E. Felsinger, was recently recognized as the 2016 Director of the Year by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) — a nonprofit membership organization for corporate board members.

Felsinger joined ADM’s Board of Directors in August 2009 and currently serves as its lead director and as a member of the executive committee.

“We congratulate Don on being recognized as the 2016 Director of the Year by the National Association of Corporate Directors,” said Juan Luciano, ADM chairman and chief executive officer (CEO). “Don has demonstrated extraordinary leadership as the lead director of our board over the past two years. With his insights, we have enhanced a number of corporate governance measures to drive increased transparency and better represent shareholder interests.”

The Director of the Year honor is part of the NACD’s 2016 NACD Directorship 100, the annual list that recognizes the leading corporate directors, corporate-governance experts, policymakers and influencers who significantly impact boardroom practices and performance. For nearly four decades, NACD has recognized individual directors who serve as role models in promoting exemplary board leadership, oversight and courage in the boardroom.

Nominees are evaluated in four key categories: integrity, mature confidence, informed judgment and high performance standards. An independent selection committee reviews each nominee’s history of advancing board performance and leading corporate-governance practices in accordance with established NACD principles. The principles are a framework that encourages excellence in areas critical to boardroom leadership, including risk oversight, corporate strategy, compensation and transparency.

“Don has engaged with shareholders to gain valuable feedback on ADM’s corporate governance while acting as a great advocate for ADM’s board and management,” Luciano said. “From a personal standpoint, Don has been a close and trusted adviser, and I have benefited from his experience and expertise.”
