BRUSSELS, BELGIUM — The European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation (FEFAC) and the International Trade Centre (ITC) announced on June 7 that PRO-S by Bunge and the ProTerra Standard by the ProTerra Foundation have been successfully benchmarked against the FEFAC soy sourcing guidelines through thecustomized ITC benchmarking tool. Including these two standards, there are now 11 responsible soy programs that meet the E.U. feed industry’s baseline criteria on responsible soy production.

“The continued benchmarking applications by responsible soy program owners show the growing acceptance by soy value chain partners of the FEFAC Soy Sourcing Guidelines,” said Angela Booth, chairperson of the FEFAC sustainability committee. “Bunge and ProTerra have recognized the value of qualifying with the E.U. feed industry’s demands and aligned their criteria accordingly.”

FEFAC and ITC strongly encourage further submissions by other responsible soy program owners which would allow interested E.U. feed associations and member companies to transparently make further progress toward the mainstream market transition for the supply of responsibly produced soy to the E.U. feed sector. FEFAC will continue with outreach activities to promote the Soy Sourcing Guidelines to key supply groups as well as downstream customers in the E.U. value chain for livestock products, the association said.

ITC is a joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization aiming to foster inclusive and sustainable growth and development through trade and international business development. Trade for Sustainable Development Program (T4SD) is one of the ITC programs and is the implementer of the FEFAC’s tool for responsible soy.
