GEAPS 506: The Grain Industry in Canada – Climate, Crops and People
This all-new course offers a broad and comprehensive view of Canada’s multifaceted and historic grain industry. It should be a valuable resource for anyone who does business in or with Canada, or is a major player in the global grain economy. Participants will gain a better understanding of the influence of Canada’s climate and population, crop production, marketing, regulatory regimens, grading, cleaning and drying, quality control, rail transportation, domestic use and grain exports.
GEAPS 511: Grain Facilities Planning and Design II
This advanced course was completely updated in 2015 with seven new instructors and all-new content that reflects current industry standards and best practices. It provides a practical, real-world foundation for operations professionals responsible for helping plan and design grain facilities. Lectures cover site selection, rail planning, safety, security, roofing, storage and other considerations. Some lectures revisit topics from GEAPS 510: Facilities Planning and Design I in more depth.
GEAPS 542: Electrical Safety for Grain and Processing Facilities
This course provides a basic understanding of electrical safety requirements for grain elevators and processing facilities. It will help participants understand general electrical standards in grain facilities, including the requirements for electric motors and lighting, safety standards and why standards exist. This course will also teach students how to perform an audit, how to identify the classifications in a facility and how to hire qualified electrical contractors.
For grain industry professionals who have already earned a Credential in Grain Operations Management (CGOM), GEAPS 542 is one of four courses required to earn the Specialist Credential in Property and Casualty Risk Management. Learn more about the credential program on the GEAPS website.
GEAPS 600: Overview of Milling Operations
This course enhances the knowledge and skills of workers involved in the milling process. It helps participants analyze the mass balance of material flowing through the mill and apply statistical process control techniques to monitor mill performance. Students will also gain an understanding of sampling techniques and tools to accomplish proper sampling, the impact of milling practices on flour quality and blending practices that meet customer specifications.
