NEW YORK, NEW YORK, U.S. — Bunge Limited Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alberto Weisser will receive one of the Brazilian-American Chamber’s Person of the Year Awards, the company announced on Nov. 21.

The award is given to two outstanding leaders (one Brazilian and one American) who have been instrumental in forging closer ties between the two nations. The awards will be given on May 17, 2012, at a dinner in New York City, New York, U.S.


Weisser joined Bunge as its chief financial officer in July 1993. He was CEO in 1999 and chairman and CEO in May 2001. Prior to joining Bunge, Weisser worked for the BASF Group for 15 years in Brazil, Germany, the U.S., and Mexico. He has served on Bunge’s board of directors since May 1997.

Weisser is also a board member of Pepsico, International Paper, Rabobank’s North American Agribusiness Advisory Board, and the Council of the Americas. Weisser earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. He has also attended INSEAD’s Management Development Program.

The other award recipient is André Esteves, chairman & CEO, BTG Pactual, Brazil’s leading investment bank.
