BAAR, SWITZERLAND — Glencore International said on May 5 that agricultural products processed/produced was down 15% for the first quarter to 1.4 million tonnes.

Glencore is one of the world’s largest global diversified natural resource companies and a major producer and marketer of more than 90 commodities. Glencore purchased Viterra at the end of 2012.

The 10% reduction in crush volumes was in response to lower margins, the company said, while the 37% reduction in biodiesel, from 205,000 tonnes to 109,000 tonnes, was due to a scheduled maintenance shutdown at Biopetrol and reduced production at Renova.

Wheat milling was down 10% to 236,000 tonnes from 262,000 tonnes a year earlier. Rice milling was up 31% to 47,000 tonnes from 36,000 tonnes.
