CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, U.S. — American River Transportation Co., LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), on April 8 announced the launch of ARTCO Stevedoring.

ARTCO Stevedoring operates five mid-stream berths between mile markers 110 and 121 on the Mississippi River in the U.S., and offers customers a complete range of river services, including bulk transfer stevedoring and crane service; fleeting, switching, boat and related harbor services; and linehandling and crewboat services.

Those capabilities by a team, who mostly come to ARTCO Stevedoring from St. James Stevedoring Partners, and bring with them years of experience on the Mississippi. In addition, ARTCO Stevedoring is the only company on the lower Mississippi that can offer customers the benefits of full integration with ADM’s global transportation network and the company’s world-class logistics expertise, ADM said.

“ARTCO Stevedoring provides a range of services that no one else on the lower Mississippi can offer,” said Jason Porter, director of Gulf operations for ARTCO. “Our experienced operators can efficiently meet transload requirements with our high-tech Gottwald/Terex cranes; in fact, we’ll be adding two more cranes this summer to meet growing customer demand. And our services extend far beyond the lower Mississippi. Unlike anyone else, we offer fully integrated global capabilities, including blue water vessels, ship agency services, mid-stream stevedoring, fleeting, switch boat and harbor services, barging, inland terminal warehousing, container yard service, and rail and trucking operations. No one else in the Gulf offers that kind of one-stop shopping for transportation and logistical needs.”

ADM operates the world’s premier agricultural transportation network, which includes extensive river operations; thousands of trucks and railcars; and a fleet of oceangoing vessels.

ADM’s operations in Louisiana involve agricultural processing and transportation and logistics, as the company sources crops and secures energy and transportation needs throughout the state. The company’s river operations in the Gulf — managed by ARTCO — include 20 harbor and fleet vessels, a full-service shipyard, a barge washing and repair facility, and stevedoring, crewboat and line handling services. ADM employs more than 650 employees in the south Louisiana port system.
