WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S. — The average price paid in the U.S. for white pan bread rose in February while the price of whole wheat bread decreased, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The national average retail price of white pan bread was 138.8¢, up 2.3¢ per pound from January but down 2.3¢ from February 2013. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in February rose in all four regions — up 2.9¢ in the South, up 2.7¢ in the Northeast and Midwest, and up 0.2¢ in the West.

At 206.8¢ per pound, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 0.5¢ per pound from January but up 4.3¢ per pound from February 2013.

The national average price of family flour in February was 55.5¢ per pound, up 1.2¢ from January and up 3.1¢ from February 2013.

The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in February was 126.5¢ per pound, down 2.5¢ from January and down 8.3¢ from February 2013. Chocolate chip cookies were 332.9¢ per pound, up 5¢ from January but down 29.6¢ from February 2013. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 73.2¢ per pound, up 0.1¢ from January and up 2.4¢ from February 2013.
