CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA — The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) announced on Jan. 25 that at the end of December 2010 Australia's bulk storage of wheat grain was estimated at 18.2 million tonnes, which was double the amount stored at the same time in November.

ABS reported that of the total wheat grain stored by bulk grain handlers, 62% (or 11.3 million tonnes) was milling grade and 38% (or 6.9 million tonnes) was feed grade. Wheat grain stored by bulk grain handlers increased in all states in December 2010, when compared to November 2010.


According to ABS data, wheat grain stocks stored by bulk handlers in New South Wales was the highest with 33% of the total Australian wheat grain stored (5.9 million tonnes) at the end of December. Western Australia had 27% of the total at 4.9 million tonnes.
