BAGHDAD, IRAQ — The sale of U.S. long-grain rice to Iraq reported in the Aug. 26 edition of the USA Rice Daily has been confirmed. Of the 310,000 tonnes of rice purchased under that tender, the U.S. was awarded 120,000 tonnes or nearly 40% of the total purchased.

"This comes at a fortuitous time for the U.S. rice industry, which is in the midst of harvesting a large crop," said a representative of ADM Rice Inc., who made the sale. "Iraq is an important market for us and we hope this foreshadows more purchases of U.S. rice next calendar year."
