LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY, U.S. — During Student Day at GEAPS Exchange 2013 on Feb. 25, nearly 60 students and five faculty received a better understanding of the grain industry from a series of speakers. They also toured the Expo Hall to learn about various industry equipment and services, as well as to become familiar with Exchange and the networking opportunities that GEAPS offers.
The students are studying feed science, agricultural engineering and grain science. They attend Ohio State University, Purdue University, Murray State University and Western Kentucky University. They were accompanied by faculty from their schools.
Dr. Dirk Maier, professor and head of the Department of Grain Science and Industry at Kansas State University made opening remarks before the presentations began. He also shared information about GEAPS' Distance Education and Credentialing programs.
GEAPS' lnternational past-president Jim Voigt spoke at Student Day 2013 about his work with the ADM Institute for the Prevention of Postharvest Loss (http://postharvestinstitute.illinois.edu/). Voight serves as a post-harvest grain technical expert and the Institute works to reduce global food loss and help meet the world's need for food.
Each presentation was approximately 30 minutes long and included time for students and faculty to ask questions. Closing remarks were made by GEAPS Membership Committee Chair Bill Jefferson.
