MERRIAM, KANSAS, U.S. — Seaboard Corp recently announced that it has acquired a 50% interest in Belarina Alimentos S/A, a Brazilian food company engaged in flour milling, pasta production and noodle distribution. The remaining 50% of the company is owned by CGG, a leading Brazilian grain origination and trading company.

Belarina began operations under its current name in June 2010 through a consolidation of separate businesses. Since its founding, the company has been expanding and modernizing its milling base and enhanced its sales and distribution network by acquiring a new fleet of vehicles to better serve its customers.

Belarina mills are located in three states including Sao Paolo, Parana and Mata Grosso. Historically Belarina has sourced 50% of its wheat in Brazil with the balance from Paraguay, Argentina, the U.S. and Canada.

Belarina also operates a pasta facility and distribution/packing center in other states in Brazil. In August 2011, Belarina launched a line of noodles with brands Disney, Looney Tunes and SpongeBob. Belarina has more than 200 products it sells to the baking and cooking sectors.

“Seaboard is excited to enter into the Brazilian grain processing business where we believe our long experience in grain processing and integrated supply chain models can help provide Belarina with low cost raw materials and high quality finished products, particularly given the partnership with a leading Brazilian grain trading company, CGG,” Dave Dannov, Seaboard chief executive officer for Commodity Trading & Milling, told World Grain in a recent interview.
