KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, U.S. — The Kansas City Board of Trade (KCBT) HRW wheat futures and exchange volume traded during the month of July was the second largest in the history of the exchange for the calendar month of July, KCBT said on Aug. 1.

HRW wheat futures volume of 460,806 contracts was the second largest for the month of July, with the July record of 635,546 contracts set in 2010. This month's volume was an increase of 7.3% over July 2011 volume.

Total exchange volume of 471,264 contracts also was the second largest for the month of July, with the July record of 650,626 contracts set in 2010. Total exchange volume increased 6.8% over July 2011 volume.

Open interest has grown over the past month. HRW wheat futures open interest increased 11.9%; HRW wheat options open interest increased 85.6%; and total exchange open interest increased 15.4%.
