LAWRENCE, KANSAS, U.S. — Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) has established a research center in Lawrence as part of a chemical biorefining relationship with the University of Kansas. The Decatur, Illinois, U.S.-based company has leased space at the Bioscience and Technology Business Center Expansion Facility as part of the initiative related to biorefining — converting agricultural materials into chemicals for consumer products, including packaging, cosmetics and household cleaners.
ADM and the KU Center for Environmentally Beneficial Catalysis have an eight-year relationship that included a $5.6 million federal grant in 2011 for collaborative work on chemical biorefining. ADM has contributed an additional $2.6 million in recent years to the effort.
