WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA — Richardson Oilseed Ltd. plans to increase the production capacity of its Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada facility by 25%. The company opened the facility in 2010 and said increased demand for canola oil prompted the production increase from 2,400 tonnes of canola per day to 3,000 tonnes per day.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall and be completed by late 2013.

“Strong demand from domestic and international food markets, which is being driven by growing consumer interest in healthier food products and biodiesel mandates, are fuelling increased demand for canola oil,” said Pat Van Osch, vice-president and general manager. “Canola is a Canadian success story and we are committed to continuing to increase our presence in the market to meet growing demand for Canadian canola.”
