LONDON, ENGLAND — Mike Peters, milling group advisor for Whitworth Bros. Ltd., was elected president of UK Flour Millers during the trade association’s annual general meeting held June 5 as part of its biennial convention in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Peters succeeds Gary Sharkey, procurement director for Hovis, who was president for the past two years.
“Milling has been a constant in my life for more than four decades,” Peters said. “I’m honored and delighted to have this opportunity to put something back into the industry through presidency of the association.”
Peters, who was vice president of UK Flour Millers during the past year, has more than 45 years of milling experience. He joined Whitworth Bros. in 2004 and was managing director from 2016-24. He also has worked for businesses that include Allied Mills Ltd. and ADM Milling.
UK Flour Millers, formerly the National Association of British & Irish Millers, represents the flour milling industry in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It has 32 miller-member organizations that operate 51 flour mills across the country.
“I look forward to working with the association team and building on their work with Gary, ensuring the contribution of this often-unheralded industry to food security is properly valued,” Peters said. “I’ll also be taking a close focus on the development of training, to ensure we support the millers of the future as they learn their skills in mills across the country.”
