LAMPUNG, INDONESIA — Louis Dreyfus Co. (LDC) has inaugurated a new glycerin refining plant and edible oil packaging line in Lampung, Indonesia, which the company said will help it meet demand for higher value-added refined products.
LDC said the new facilities, with their strategic location near key export hubs, reinforce the company’s regional and global supply chain capabilities for customers while aligning with LDC’s strategic growth plans and ongoing commitment to Indonesia.
“This inauguration marks an important step in the development of our Food & Feed Solutions business,” said James Zhou, LDC’s global head of Food & Feed Solutions and chief commercial officer for the Group. “The new plant leverages existing synergies with our existing operations — in Lampung, as well as globally in the US and Europe — to expand our capacity and meet the growing needs of our customers for high-quality glycerin.”
The new glycerin production plant, with annual production capacity of 55,000 tonnes, will help meet growing global demand for high-purity, USP-grade glycerin. LDC said this will strengthen its competitive position as a supplier to the pharmaceutical, personal care and cosmetics industries that are key drivers of global refined glycerin demand, projected to grow at a 2.5% CAGR for refined glycerin from 2023-40.
The site’s new edible oil packaging line has an annual packaging capacity of about 64,800 tonnes. LDC said the line will support opportunities for packaged edible oil exports and allow for exploration of domestic possibilities in line with Indonesia’s goal to develop its downstream industry for palm oil.
“We are proud to expand our presence in Indonesia with this significant investment in Lampung, as we continue growing with the country, the world’s largest glycerin producer and a strategic market for LDC,” said Rajat Dutt, country head for Indonesia at LDC. “The two new facilities combined are expected to create 200 new jobs by the end of 2025, contributing to economic and professional skills development in the local Lampung community.”
