BARCELONA, SPAIN — Skretting, a global aquaculture feed manufacturer and supplier, has been certified under the new Aquaculture Stewardship Council’s ASC Feed Standard by global independent assurance and risk management provider DNV.
The new ASC Feed Standard provides a comprehensive framework for responsible aquafeed production, setting stringent requirements across key areas, including social and labor rights, health and safety, environmental stewardship, and responsible sourcing of raw materials.
Beginning Oct. 31, ASC-certified farms must use ASC-certified feed to maintain their certification. Many of Skretting’s customers already hold ASC certifications, and the company said it remains committed to aligning with their standards as a reliable partner. The certification was formally awarded during a ceremony May 8 at Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, Spain.
“At Skretting, our commitment to delivering sustainable feed begins with responsible sourcing,” said Sergio Alanis, managing director business unit Southern Europe at Skretting. “The ASC Feed Standard provides a robust methodology to better identify and mitigate legal, environmental and social risks associated with the raw materials we use. Importantly, the standard addresses both environmental and social impacts and offers a strong framework for upholding human rights.
“We embraced the ASC Feed Standard from its inception, and we are proud to have earned this certification from DNV.”
Based in Stavanger, Norway, Skretting is the aquaculture business line of Nutreco, a world leader in animal nutrition. Skretting has production facilities in 18 countries on five continents and manufactures and delivers high-quality feeds from hatching to harvest for more than 60 species. The company annually produces more than 3 million tonnes of feed.
Stefano Crea, global market and industries director at DNV, said the ASC Feed Standard will ensure that aquafeed production is carried out responsibly, addressing both environmental and social impacts across the entire supply chain.
“It promotes transparency, traceability, and continuous improvement in the aquaculture industry, ultimately contributing to more sustainable and ethical seafood production,” Crea said. “Skretting’s commitment to sustainability across its entire value chain is evident, and I congratulate them on achieving ASC Feed certification.”
