TOPSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS, US — Nominations are being accepted for the 2023 Women in Agribusiness (WIA) Demeter Award of Excellence. The award, in its 11th year, has recognized more than 25 women in the industry.

The WIA Demeter Award, so named for Demeter, the goddess of the harvest from ancient Greek mythology, celebrates women who have achieved excellence in their field and/or who have demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the agribusiness industry.

Past recipients were selected for such achievements as: being executive sponsor of an employee resource group focused on increasing visibility of LGBTQ+ issues; or building an agtech company — as one of the few women CEOs in the field — that boasts a workforce that is 50% female; or for being a visionary leader and facilitator of change in leading international ag and food policies.

Criteria for nominations, which can be submitted until July 14, are:

  • Woman with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the ag and/or food industry;
  • Woman who is a positive example to other women in the industry;
  • Woman who breaks down barriers and serves as a resource for others; and
  • Woman who consistently exemplifies professionalism.

The nomination form is available here.

There is no limit to the number of entries, and self-nominations are permissible. Up to three nominees will be chosen and each recipient will be invited to accept her award at the 2023 Women in Agribusiness Summit, which will take place Sept. 26-28 in Nashville, Tennessee, US.
