WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA — Due to this year’s delayed harvest, the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is extending its deadline for the Harvest Sample Program to Dec. 1, the CGC said on Oct. 15. The original deadline was Nov. 1.
"This year, the weather was a challenge for producers across Canada. An extra four weeks gives producers time to send their samples and get a free grade despite a late harvest," said Chief Commissioner Elwin Hermanson.
Each fall, the CGC invites producers to submit representative samples of their crops for the harvest sample program. These samples are used to determine the quality of harvest as it goes to market and provides buyers from all over the world with information on the quality of Canadian grain.
By sending in their samples, producers are helping to market Canadian grain, while receiving the following free of charge:
- An unofficial Canadian Grain Commission grade.
- Protein content in cereal grains and pulses.
- Oil, protein and chlorophyll content in canola.
- Oil and protein content and iodine value in flaxseed.
- Oil and protein for mustard seed and soybeans.
