WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA — Western Canadian farmers have chosen their representatives to the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB), the CWB announced on Dec. 12. Director elections were held in five CWB districts across the prairies this fall. The election results, as announced by the election coordinator, Meyers Norris Penny LLP, are as follows:

District 1: Henry Vos (incumbent)

District 3: Stewart Wells (new director)

District 5: Allen Oberg (incumbent)

District 7: Kyle Korneychuk (incumbent)

District 9: John Sandborn (new director)

Voter participation was 41.3%. Approximately 28,481 producers were included on the list of eligible voters.

"As the successful candidates, we will sit at the board table of the CWB as the voice of farmers," said Allen Oberg, chair of the CWB board of directors. "This democratic election process is integral to the principle of farmer control over our marketing organization. We are committed to upholding the interests of our fellow producers."

Oberg congratulated all 13 candidates for their efforts and involvement in such an important process for prairie producers.

"The CWB works for farmers. Its activities have a direct impact on producers' finances and business operations,” Oberg said. “I look forward to working with the other successful candidates to ensure farmers are always put first."

Producers elect 10 representatives to the 15-member board, which oversees the organization and sets its policies and direction. Directors are elected for four-year terms, with elections alternating between odd- and even-numbered districts every two years.

The new board of directors, which officially takes office on Dec. 31, will assemble in Winnipeg Jan. 31 to Feb. 2, 2011, for the first regularly scheduled meeting of the new board.

Complete election results will be available on the election coordinator's Web site atwww.cwbelection.com.
