MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — Southern New South Wales’ canola harvest is already under way with the first load delivered to Emerald’s Australian Bulk Alliance storage site at Goolgowi on Oct. 26, Emerald said on Oct. 30.
“Five hundred tonnes of canola has been delivered to Goolgowi already,” Emerald Group
General Manager Supply Chain and Operations John Warda said. “We opened the site over the weekend so growers who were just starting harvesting could deliver without delay.
“At this early stage we’re receiving canola directly into our 800 tph rail facility. Our new canola stacker will add another 450 tph intake point. We have three ships booked to load about 110,000 tonnes of canola out of the ABA Melbourne Port Terminal during November and December and will be using our trains and road logistics to move as much canola as possible straight to Port for those cargoes.”
Emerald is forecasting New South Wales growers will harvest their largest canola crop to date with the prediction pegged at just over 850,000 tonnes.
Warda said Emerald was expecting canola deliveries to start at other ABA sites in the region later this week including at Ungarie, Ardlethan, Coolamon and The Rock.
Growers can check the ABA website at
www.bulkalliance.com.au via their computer or smartphone for opening hours and prices at any ABA site.
Warda said Emerald’s recent upgrades to ABA’s storage sites and its investment in its online capabilities were all about driving supply chain efficiencies.
“Growers can now transfer their warehoused grain to a cash price in a simple online transaction using ABA’s grower service center portal. We’re making it easier for growers to do business with us by improving capacity and turnaround times at our storage site and by continually updating the functionality of our website.
“Our aim is to enhance growers’ returns by creating efficiencies from the farm gate to the port,”
Warda said.
