RABAT, MORROCCO — Morocco has decided to increase wheat import duties on common and durum wheat to protect domestic producers from foreign competition, according to a Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) report from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Common wheat import duties were raised on May 15 from 0% to 135%. Import duties on durum wheat are expected to be raised to 170% from 0% on June 1.

The new duties will be applied until further notice, the USDA said.
