Company officials confirmed its decision is based on Cargill's commitment to maintaining safe, cost-effective and efficient facilities in the communities in which it operates.
"Because of the terminal's urban location, accessibility was becoming increasingly more challenging for our farm customers," said Mike Morlock, farm service group manager for Mountainview AgHorizons. Cargill will continue to serve its valued customers through its Blackie, Carseland and Equity grain terminals in the surrounding area.
Cargill will ensure that its team of dedicated employees has access to career transition and personal and family support. The company will also provide expertise to detail and explain all of the available options.
"We are taking the closure as an opportunity to move forward, even though we are sad to see the terminal close its doors. Today marks another step ahead in support of our customers, as well as the agriculture community in Alberta," said Morlock.
